How Does Primitivism Differ from Realism

I am trying to write a paper on primitivism and realism and I don’t see how they differ. Can anyone please help me?

Realists say that it is the artist’s job to depict the world as it truly exists in every one of its aspects.

Realism is a style of painting that shows things in their natural state. Realist painters want to depict the world as it truly exists in every one of its aspects and believe that the world is beautiful and worthy of depiction.

primitivism primitivists thought that everyday life was not beautiful and therefore not worthy of depiction.

Primitivists often expressed their interest in matters of the heart and soul. They were more interested in conveying their feelings than in capturing the beauty of nature or everyday life, which they often found ugly. Although primitivists such as Kurt Schwitters and Francis Picabia were preoccupied with an approach to art that focused on the inner world, they were also drawn to the spiritual. For example, Schwitters made collages from newspaper clippings because he felt that these articles provided access to a universal consciousness.

primitivists believed in self expression while realists didn’t.

Primitivism is a style of art characterised by its emphasis on nature and the animal-like qualities of humanity. Realism, on the other hand, seeks to depict reality exactly as it exists in all of its aspects—including aspects that are mundane or unromanticized.

Realists have often been accused of being at best boring and at worst unimaginative for their refusal to create works that deviate from reality. However, this criticism fails to take into account that realism encompasses many different styles within itself; it does not simply mean “photography” or “documentation” but instead includes elements like abstraction and fantasy as well. Realist painters such as Philip Pearlstein and Edward Hopper were able to express their own views through these styles while still maintaining an adherence to reality by focusing on everyday life rather than fantastical settings or abstractions

Conclusion

In the end, we can see that primitivism and realism are very different. While realists believed in depicting everyday life as it really is, primitivists wanted to capture another world with their art. The former attempted to reveal some kind of truth about the world through an objective lens while the latter were inspired by what they saw as a more authentic way of life, untouched by western culture. While it may be impossible for us today to know exactly how these artists felt when producing their work (or even if they would have agreed on this distinction between art movements), there is no doubt that both styles have left an impact on contemporary society.
